I’ve just finished doing a week’s work with a non government organisation – Volunteer Building Cambodia.
These people build houses for families living in country areas that cannot afford to build their own.
I’ve gotta say, working in the sun without pay wasn’t something I was looking for but I’m hooked. We put a very basic house up in four days, with help from a group of kids who volunteered for a few days. I was privileged to hand over the padlock and keys to the husband, wife and seven children. They had been living in a two metre by two metre chook house with no floor before the local villagers built them some temporary shelter.
After the blessing by the monks we sat down to a very tasty meal and a rice wine then trundled off home for a swim at the pool down the road. Then we relaxed for the rest of the day.
