A few weeks back we ventured out on the moto (our motorbike/scooter) to a lake that few people around here seem to have heard of. We think it is called Trou Doc but we can’t find it on the map and Google is not rewarding us with any hits. That’s what the name sounded like when our friend Marom said it. He seems to be one of the few people who know about this place.
When you say lake, everyone assumes you mean the huge and famous Tonle Sap. But this one is much smaller, much quieter. Locals visit to hang out in hammocks and eat and drink at the restaurants that line the road. They also swim, although there are signs everywhere saying do not swim.
It was an early-ish morning ride with some friends and we didn’t have breakfast before leaving. So we were delighted when this guy came past selling fresh baguettes.
It was a great start to the day.

I recently found a wildlife sanctuary about 30 minutes for home and it’s awesome! I can’t believe I’d never heard of it before and I’ve lived near it for almost my whole life. It’s a fantastic place to take a young family. There’s plenty of wildlife to see and bird hides all over the sanctuary, plus you get to stroll around in the bush. It’s called Serendip Sanctuary and it’s near Geelong, Victoria, Australia.

That’s awesome Sandra! It’s amazing how we get set in routines and visiting favourite places and sometimes forget to venture out and explore new ones, even just around the corner from us. I hope you get to spend many happy days in your new-found wildlife sanctuary.

We moved to Brisbane in January and having an amazing time exploring the Sunshine Coast region. It has to be one of the most amazing parts of Australia. Love it so much we are planning to move there next year! 🙂

Awesome Kira! We have just moved here from the Sunshine Coast. We lived on the Sunny Coast for 15 years. Definitely a beautiful part of the world. Enjoy your exploring.
