The ancient temples of Angkor are amazing but it doesn’t matter how intact or beautiful the sculptures in Angkor Wat, Banteay Srey and others, I always love Ta Prohm.
The ramshackle feel of the blocks tumbled around, the moss covering the walls and of course, the massive roots growing around the structure and trees growing up over it. I could spend hours just taking it all in.
The Joker has other opinions – while he likes Ta Prohm, he is far more impressed by Angkor Wat.
Have you visited? Do you have a preference?

It’s Ta Prohm for me. I first visited in 2005 and it was almost deserted mid afternoon with just the deafening sound of crickets. I’ve have been since and it still fascinates me with the tree roots strangling the ancient structures.

We were there around lunch time and there was hardly anyone there, which was great.

I was much more impressed by Ta Prohm as well. After all the hype of Angkor Wat, I couldn’t help but feel slightly disappointed. I thought there were other ruins that were far more impressive. Either way, so glad I was able to see it!

It’s funny how different places resonate with different people. I still find Angkor Wat amazing. It’s sheer size and how much of it is still standing but there is a “feeling” about Ta Prohm that I love. Each temple site has its own story and beauty and they are definitely worth a look when in Siem Reap.
