Hi! And welcome to Journo and the Joker.
We are Sam (the Journo) and Steve (the Joker).
Thanks for stopping by and sharing a little part of our life journey.
Last year we threw caution to the wind and ditched the routine of our daily lives to seek adventure and fulfilment in another country. We were in search of more – more from life, more from work, more excitement, more challenge, more fulfilment – oh and the Joker was after more beer. And at the same time, we were in search of less – less stress, less clutter, less stuff.
So we find ourselves in Cambodia, one of the poorest nations in Asia, where a warm smile from someone living in poverty can light up your day, where the humidity wraps itself around you like a warm, damp blanket and where the rain turns the countryside a vibrant lime green – a place where less is definitely more.
This blog began as a place to share our stories and experiences, to introduce you to the amazing people we meet, to showcase a different culture and share a slice of what life is like in a developing country.
Along the way we will share the laughter, the funny mishaps, our challenges and frustrations and we hope you will also get something out of it.
Sam, a journalist and photographer, is happiest when telling the stories of people she meets and places she visits and documenting them with photos.
Steve, the Joker, is an all-round funny guy, who loves to look at the lighter side of life and have a laugh – often at his own expense – but more likely at Sam’s. People and places fascinate him and he is constantly amazed at how daily life ticks over here. His posts will sometimes take some poetic licence, although we try and keep this to a minimum and he always tries to see the lighter side in an experience.
Thanks for stopping by. We’d love to hear your thoughts and opinions so feel free to comment on our posts.
