Early start today – 6am.
We went out to a silk farm this morning, before it got too hot, to see how it all works. I’m glad I’m not a silk worm – life cycle of about 47 days where you eat, work your arse off to make a cocoon, then depending on the time of year, you’re left outside in the sun to die or you’re steamed in the cooler months. It was very interesting watching how they weave scarves and sarongs from the silk.
Our second stop was at the Military Museum in Siem Reap. We were shown around by a guide, who had an arm blown off by a land mine when he was 14. Three friends who were with him were killed by the same mine. This place, I think, is a must-do if you ever visit Siem Reap. It has plenty of war relics, which all seem to have a story hidden in them somewhere. This place has been the best $5 (a donation) I’ve spent so far, including grog.
I’m starting to think I have some Mexican blood in me – siestas are great. Came back to 2D’s for a beer and a nana nap. Had a few b’s (beers) and a few z’s under my belt snd I was ready for a big afternoon of doing nothing. But it wasn’t to be. We w’re off to the artisan’s workshop (Artisans d’Angkor), where underprivileged Cambodians get to learn an artisan’s trade and carve a living for themselves so they can support their families.
We had a quick stop-off at the Cambodia-only market on the way home and the day is done.

PS. I love you – beer and air-conditioning.
