Sitting on the balcony having a beer with Journo and Mr Bean and watching the rain fall, was something of a relief after some fairly hot days over the last week.
Mr Bean (Bruce) is a retired Englishman, travelling Asia. He spends some time at one of the local temples, sitting in on a conversational English class and talking to local students who are learning to speak English.
What a great time he seems to have had travelling over the years, from being mugged countless times, to being bashed and thrown into ditches to being robbed by the cleaners in hotels. And he’s had some of the best bus trips I hope to never take. Bruce got the Mr Bean tag because it is easier for Cambodians to say bean than Bruce. Since meeting him, I think the name suits as he spends most of his time in the heat of the day riding a push bike out of town on dusty, busy dirt roads.
With my firm grasp of the English language, the Journo and I joined Mr Bean and sat in on the conversational English class for students (young adults) learning to communicate with English speaking foreigners. I’m not sure if it helped a lot but at least they know how to tell people where to go and how quickly they should do it – politely of course.
We also took a trip out to the market to buy some cleaning products for the room. Lucky for me Cambodians are quite petite and the products only come in lady sizes. Frees up my day for important stuff like sleeping and resting.
