Having a little flashback to Perth, Western Australia.
I took this snap of these white kangaroos on a visit to Whiteman Park, in the Swan Valley. The Joker was off fishing and I went with my sister and we took my aunt and uncle, who were visiting from the UK.
This “baby” roo is really a bit big to be nursing from mum but he is taking the opportunity and she is letting him, despite having another joey in her pouch.
I have to confess that prior to this visit in March, I had never been to Whiteman Park. It used to be known as Caversham Park and lays claim to being the largest metropolitan park in the world.
I have to say, I was impressed. The park itself has free entry, if you want to go along and have a picnic with the family or perhaps take bikes and ride around. But there are several attractions within the park, including the wildlife park, which do cost. From memory I think it was AU$20 or $25 for an adult. You can walk right up to these kangaroos and pat them.
All in all it was a lovely day out wandering in a bush setting and seeing a range of Australian native wildlife. It’s a great day trip if you are in Perth and looking for something different to do.
Have you visited?

I’ve only just been for the first time too – and was surprised at what a great place it is. Anytime I have visitors from overseas I will take them there. I thought the white kangaroos where albinos but apparently it’s some kind of hereditary pigment issue that the kangaroos at the park have.

Hi Nina. Yes, I thought the same thing about the white kangaroos but they told us about the hereditary pigment as well. Strange. It is a great place to take overseas visitors and such a pretty bushland setting all around. The cafe was nothing to write home about so I’d recommend a picnic lunch if you are planning to stay for lunch.

What a cool picture! I have never seen a white kangaroo in person or in a photo before. I guess I just never realized they could be white. It would be sweet to be able to pet a kangaroo. I have always dreamed of visiting Australia and reading about it has only increased my desire. Thanks for sharing!

There are so many amazing things to experience in Australia, Emily Rose. I hope you get there one day. But plan carefully because it is so big and the country varies so much from one place to the next.
